The Vineyard

Last week, AfterShock Comics announced The Vineyard, a mythological horror series to debut in August. My partners in crime in this project are writer Brian Hawkins, colorist Jason Wordie and letterer Taylor Esposito.

The Vineyard is a family-owned winery that sows and reaps by the blessing of the great god of wine and revelry, Dionysus. However, the Vines family’s patron god requires complete devotion in the form of four sacrificial killings a year before each harvest. This has been done in unfettered obeisance. But all of that changed when the family’s patriarch, Didache Vines, was in a horrible accident that left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

Now, the sacrificial and murderous duties of the Vines family have fallen to wife and matriarch, Maranatha Vines. With harvest season fast approaching and the family short of their annual sacrificial killings, Maranatha’s struggle with her conscience puts all of her family – husband, son and daughter – in jeopardy.

A preview of the first issue is below. I hope you are ready for this year’s harvest season! :)

Exciting Abbott news!

Saladim Ahmed and I, as the creators of Abbott 1973, are finalists for the Ignyte Award for Best Comics Team!

The Ignyte Awards seek to celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of the current and future landscapes of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, and the winners will be announced in September 2022.

In addition to the above, Abbott 1973 made the final ballot for a Bram Stoker Award in the Graphic Novel category.

The Horror Writer’s Association presents the Bram Stoker Awards, named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of Dracula. The awards are given “for superior achievement”, and any work of horror first published in the English language may be considered for an award during the year of its publication.

The winners will be announced in May 2022.

The Heathens #4 & #5

“Death is not the end for those that are already dead.”

The penultimate issue of The Heathens dropped a day before Russia invaded Ukraine, and it's needless to say the war news got me distracted. Over 50 days later, the war isn't over and the horrifying events and war crimes make me sick and angry every day.

But while seeing all the bad in the world, I also try to see all the good, and I hope The Heathens has brought joy to our readers' lives.

The final issue of the series hit the shelves at the end of March, and here's finally a little preview of both issue #4 and issue #5.
